Labradorite was first found in Labrador, Canada, hence its name. The gem shows the effect of adularescence, a milky, bluish luster or glow. Good labradorite will have a bright flash or play of colours when turned at different angles. As Canadian mines have depleted, the majority of the Labradorite now available is from Madagascar.

Some believe labradorite is a re-energizing stone, enabling a person to work longer and more productively without tiring.
