Aquamarine, called the sailor’s jewel by the Greeks and Romans, is a light blue to greenish blue variety of the mineral beryl.
Its name comes from the Latin words aqua and marina. Aquamarine is said to calm the waves and therefore used to serve as a talisman for safe travel at sea.
The birthstone of March is known as a protector of well-being. The stone is usually free of impurities and very clear, like water. Symbolizing the purity and beauty of spirit and soul.
With a hardness of 7.5 on the Mohs scale, aquamarine is perfect for use in jewelry.
