About Onyx
Black onyx is the most well-known variety of the onyx gemstone but onyx is also found in brown, red, and white variations.
With a hardness of 6,5 to 7 on the Mohs scale; onyx is perfect for use in jewellery.
The name onyx comes from the Ancient Greek ὄνυξ, meaning “claw” or “fingernail”. The myth of the origin of onyx says that Cupid used the point of his enchanted arrows to give her a manicure. The parings of her nails fell into the water. As they were of heavenly origin they sank to the bottom and metamorphosed into onyx.
The gem is believed to protect a harmonious relationship and help to master your destiny by making wise decisions.
Throughout history, onyx was worn as a protective stone in bottles and conflicts.
